The network's Premier New Show of 2025 Earns a Significant Extension for an Additional Two Seasons.
Last October, the late-night programming block welcomed back its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. But, later that same month, the channel unveiled a brand-new animated series with a markedly softer feel. Haha, You Clowns emerged as gentle and comforting, in the spirit of a animated take of a contemplative talk show. In an era often defined by dark humor, this show's wholesomeness struck a chord and turned it into a surprise hit.
A Two-Season Greenlight
On December 18th, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two more seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to expand upon the story of the Campbell family. The series centers on three polite teenage brothers whose defining trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four central characters.
"I am incredibly thankful to the viewers of the show who welcomed the series and shared it with others," said Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
Executive Acclaim
Accompanying the news praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He thanked the fans who found the show and advocated for its peculiarly charming sensibility.
"All of you supported this new show, rooted for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Comforting Counterpoint
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. It offers something unexpectedly cozy about following this endearing family navigate their daily lives.
In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa stated his goal to evolve comedy past its current sarcastic tone. He traced this trend to a broader media landscape.
“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we are trapped in,” said Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we just have to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”
What Comes Next
Now, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa has the opportunity to help usher in that very evolution. Or at the very least, the renewal promises audiences additional episodes to bask in the gentle humor of the unique Campbell clan.
The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. All episodes is available for streaming on HBO Max.
