Edwards along with O'Neil are two of the early names under consideration to succeed Vitor Pereira as head coach of Wolves.
Pereira was dismissed on Sunday after the squad's ten-game winless beginning to the Premier League season.
Furthermore Edwards and O'Neil - both of who have previous associations to the team - are among the options to be evaluated by the Wolves leadership.
The manager is presently at another club, which would pose a potential obstacle to his appointment at Wolves' stadium.
However the former Luton manager - who played over a century of games for Wolves during his time as a player - is considered a strong contender for the position.
The 42-year-old is said to have backing from the club directors as they begin the process of appointing a fresh manager.
Gary O'Neil is also emerging as a unexpected candidate, although he would be a surprising choice considering he was released by the club in December last year.
The ex- West Ham player is out of work meaning the club would not be required to provide any compensation.
