Fans eagerly awaiting the release of Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined won't have to wait much longer. A highly anticipated playable preview will go live on January 7th, offering a substantial look into the game's initial chapters. Notably, all progress made within this demo will be able to be transferred directly into the complete game upon its February release.

More Than a Straightforward Remake: The Thorough Overhaul

This title represents a comprehensive re-envisioning of the iconic year 2000 RPG, initially released as Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past. In a notable step away from other series remakes, such as the previously released HD-2D iterations, this version adopts a charming three-dimensional art style. The world appear to look like detailed dioramas, with party members sporting a delightful chibi-esque look.

"Considering the 3DS port, the main quest was still exceptionally extended. Consequently, the team reached a decision that we wanted to streamline the story, [and] make this experience for contemporary audiences."

Significant Gameplay Enhancements & Modernizations

Square Enix have added a host of changes to streamline the original experience. These include:

• Expedited Overworld Battles: Taking a cue from modern role-playing games, weaker foes can now be dispatched directly on the field without initiating a separate turn-based combat sequence.
• Adjustable Combat Speed: Gamers can speed up combat animations to quickly get past simpler fights.
• Expanded Vocation System: One completely new job class was created for this remake. Furthermore, party members gain the ability to master a second vocation, greatly enhancing strategic depth.

These alterations are designed to address a key the 2000 game's frequent points of feedback: its immense length. That initial main quest was known to require more than 100 hours to finish. The reimagined edition was specifically reworked to improve pacing and cut down on perceived filler.

Interested adventurers will be able to begin exploring the reimagined world of Dragon Quest VII for themselves when the complimentary trial releases on Wednesday, January 7th. The complete adventure, Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined, will then be set to release on February 5, 2026. The title will be released on a wide range of systems, including Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox.
