Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Claims Involving Wide Receiver the Athlete

The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement Wednesday night stating they have knowledge of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a ex-partner of wide receiver the athlete and had been in communication with the league office.

The team omitted the name of Rice specifically in their statement and noted they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

Allegations Shared on Instagram

The woman, who also did not mention Rice by name, shared a series of photos on social media that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. She did say the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has two children with Rice, whom the team drafted in the 2023 draft.

Police Reports Currently Not on File

No police reports were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.

Player's Prior Off-Field Troubles

The receiver was absent for the first six games of this NFL campaign following an league-mandated ban for his role in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that resulted in several individuals hurt. Rice was given 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to serious offenses.

On the field, he concluded the season with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five TDs as the Chiefs finished 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first time in a decade.
